How to Refresh your Bedroom

Our bedrooms are our ultimate sanctuary. It is one of the most important rooms in your home. Now more than ever before, people see the benefits of investing in better sleep and how to relax before sleep. Your bedroom should be a cozy retreat for you to enjoy fully. Whether it's luxurious throw pillows, soothing colour palettes, or unique personal pieces, paying close attention to your design decisions can result in a chic space for rest and relaxation. This blog post will teach you how to give your master bedroom a much needed refresh.

  1. Make a Statement with Wallpaper. Adding wallpaper to a single wall is a fast way to create a statement and add personality to a room. Choosing neutral colours for your wallpaper will give you more versatility because you can always switch up the other colours in the room quite easily. Timeless, chic and fast - what more could you ask for?!

  2. Experiment with Textures. Sklar Peppler has mentioned this tip before, and with good reason. A monochromatic look mixed with various textures is a very chic combination. High-contrast neutrals like black with sage, browns and blues feel very serene. Instead of bold patterns and colours, use texture and tones to create an updated, sophisticated, calming look.

  3. Add Personal Touches. When decorating a master bedroom, the Sklar Peppler Design Consultants tend to lean towards a calming colours palette and simple light fixtures. We like to personalize the space with accents. Adding pillows with patterns, flowers, books, rugs and vases is an easy way to add pops of colour, pattern and personality without costing a fortune or creating a challenge to switch up in a few years. 4. Experiment with a console table. Of course, you can settle for traditional nightstands, but why not mix things up by considering a low-profile console table instead? Spruce one up with your favorite bedside accessories, including an oversized mirror, petite table lamp and framed artwork.

  5. Add sconces to your headboard. Installing sconces on a unique headboard makes it even more of a focal point and saves bedside space. Stick to all-white fixtures to balance wood furniture.

  6. Bring in plenty of seating. Sure, your bed is the main focal point of the room. However, if you have the space, a bench at the end of the bed or a reading chair in the corner helps make any space feel more finished and it’s still useful. Having extra seating in your bedroom is perfect for having a cozy spot for reading, laying out tomorrow's outfit or even a spot to keep extra throws.

  7. Hang a mirror or two. Your eyes aren't deceiving you: mirrors make any room look bigger by reflecting light. A large mirror leaning up against the wall will help a small room feel “airy” and spacious.

  8. Stick to a colour scheme. It's hard to decorate when your palette is all over the place. Pick a few bold colours to focus on (like green or blue) and a couple of easy neutrals (like white and grey) to balance the brighter choices. Picking the right colours for your space can be tricky, contact Sklar Peppler’s Design Consultants for more assistance.

  9. Lay down a rug. Adding a properly-sized area rug makes a room look bigger and more pulled together. Be sure to choose one that's large enough to tuck under the bed and at least one other piece of furniture. Almost all of Sklar Peppler’s rugs come in multiple sizes and shapes.

  10. Monitor your pillow population. Pillows can be comfy and add lots of fun personality, but they shouldn't take up more than half of the bed. Two sets of appropriately sized bed pillows and a lumbar pillow are all you need. Different textures will help liven up your display, too.
